State Fair has come and Gone…

There are only 2 days left for the State Fair of Texas and another year has gone by where we didn’t get a chance to make it out there with the kids.  The State Fair is a pretty big deal around here.  Kids get a day off of school while teachers have an in-service day and its almost always packed full of good food and fun!

This year we had a big reveal of our Fair’s Mascot known as Big Tex.  Last year after a good stint of about 40 years, he went up in flames.  Since he burned down, it has been a big deal for this years fair to see how he would look.  Poor guy is very unattractive with boots up to his knees but he’s part of our lives.

We missed out on all of the good food,…. er, um… fried food.  I have never really been a big fan of fair food because it is all fried but we go to great extents to come up with the most unusual fried foods that leave everyone wondering what it could possibly taste like.  This years big crowd pleaser was Fried Thanksgiving Dinner.  Its supposed to be a mix of everything you’d eat at a turkey dinner in a big fried mess.   Sounds interesting right?  We also missed out on trying Fried Bubble-gum and who wouldn’t want to eat Fried Bacon Cinnamon roll!?

One of our favorite parts is going through the State Fair Auto Show.  This is where you can walk through and feel and touch all of the newest and coolest cars out right now or what is coming soon.  I know we already have a new car, but it sure is fun to dream.  Its like getting a chance to sit in every car in John Hughes show room! Talk about heaven!  I tend to gravitate towards the cars I probably would never have a chance at owning.  I have always wanted to own a JEEP vehicle and they are so sporty and fun.    How about this bad boy!

Or this guy!! I bet Ryan would freak out if he saw this on the showroom floor at the State Fair!  Looks like Bumblebee from Transformers!

And finally, we missed out on all the fun rides and testing our skills at all of the games along the Midway.  Maybe next year!

Do you have a fair in your area?  Or have you been to the Texas State Fair? What’s your favorite part?  I will put it down for our MUST do for 2014!  Can’t miss another year!
Have a great weekend!

I'm hoping we can go to our State Fair when E is older if for nothing else but the food!
