Lost Sleep

Last night was a rough night and I didn’t sleep very well.  First thoughts might lead you to think it was because of Rayne waking up to eat but you would be wrong.  My mind was racing and I couldn’t stop thinking about my evening.  Here’s what happened.

I was in the living room feeding Rayne….
While Erik was giving Reese a bath…
(green water is from the Elmo color tabs, our water is normal, trust me).
Ryan was between watching tv in our room and running in to play with Reese and splash her with water….
I just happened to glance up to our mantle and saw a GINORMOUS Roach crawling on the wall.  We are talking about the world’s largest roach and I’m almost sure he had wings and a suitcase.

I did what most would do and ran to get Erik to come in and kill it!  While still feeding Rayne, I came in to supervise Reese while he did the deed.
He came in with a smirk and said he couldn’t find him.  He disappeared!

I sent him back in there!  He removed the picture hanging on our wall, all of our mantle decorations and claims he searched EVERYWHERE and he was gone.

I finished up Reese’s bath, put Rayne down for a nap and came in to graze over the entire living room to see if I could find him.  There’s no way he got far!  His legs are only a few cm long! Unless.. he used his wings!

Erik began putting everything back where it was and I went in our room to put on my protective gear.  We now have a freakishly large roach among us and I am not taking any chances!

My tennis shoes and socks pulled up as high as they could go is what I’m considering protective gear by the way..
high socks
This way I feel I can at least stomp on him quickly and catch him before he gets too far up my leg without having to actually feel him.  This is my thought process at least.  It makes me feel better.

So, he is still on the loose and this is what had me restless.  I slept with socks on because I knew I’d be coming out to the living room during the night with only the tv as my source for light.  I kept envisioning him crawling on the walls or even on me and it had me freaked out.

I had sprayed the base boards with indoor/outdoor home insect stuff and got to thinking- how the heck does that stuff actually work?  I mean, it goes on the floors and dries.. Do the insects lick it first before they walk in with the hopes that there is no poison and then run like hell? I really don’t get it.

This is our first major bug since we moved in nearly a year ago and needless to say—I HATE BUGS!

I’m linking up with my gal pals—you should too!

maybe it wasn't a roach and was a waterbug instead. Which really doesn't help much does it??

Ok. I LOVE your protective gear! I think on the same wavelength as you my dear!

The other night I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. Stumble in there, no glasses on, and see the big spider run right past me. Almost peed on myself.

Oh dear Lord. I sympathize!!!!
My roommates and I had a bat issue when we first moved into our place. One roommate actually had one in her closet, but then couldn't find him. We hats, blankets over our heads, tennis rackets, blow dryers...everything we could think of. Never found the effer.
A few weeks later, our landlord had the closets torn out and re-done. When the pulled out the old walls, they found four or five bats living in there. EEEEEK!!!

An exterminator was called shortly thereafter...

I hope you find your roach ;)

My cat found a spider the other day and brought it to me. It's 8 big, hairy legs were hanging out of his mouth and wiggling. I stomped on that sucker when he dropped it! So gross!

Oh no - I would've flipped. I also wouldn't have slept.

But perhaps you imagined it?

Yes, that's what I'd say to myself...I imagined it.

Living in Florida I have learned that cockroaches are everywhere! They are the most disgusting, fast moving, useless bugs known to man! I see them outside, they love wet mulch and palm tree roots, and in the garage but if I ever see one in my house that's alive I call the pest man and demand same day service! Nothing is nastier than a roach!

Scary story, a friend had a roach crawl in his ear while sleeping. He woke in horrible pain and after screaming for an hour while his wife tried to see what was wrong they went to the ER...where the doctor pulled out a ROACH piece by piece.

Can you even imagine? I would never sleep in that bed, room or house again!

I hate cockroaches, they freak me out big time. When me and the hubby was dating we was looking for a new apartment. We found one we liked so paid the first months rent and deposit. We started moving in at night after we got off work. We flipped on the light of the new place and roaches EVERYWHERE! They was in all the cupboards, the fridge, the freezer, the stove. The stuff we put in there stayed and we was gone!

We frequently have blue, green, and purple water at our house--no worries.
As for bugs--I am so glad I live somewhere where they don't survive the winters. We get the occasional spider that commits suicide by falling in the tub for me to find and squish but that's about it.

OMG. You crack me up.

I love the Elmo color tabs. Monkey's favorite is the red and well it just looks like an episode of Dexter to me.

The just gave me a horrible case of the creepy crawlies!!!! Yuck!!!

I died laughing at this: "Do the insects lick it first before they walk in with the hopes that there is no poison and then run like hell" I'm PRETTY sure that the way these things work is that the insect walks on the poison and later, when it's cleaning itself, it licks up the poison off its body. Then dies.

OMG. I'm going to have to stop talking about this. I'm getting grossed out.

Ewwww!!! I bet it was a water bug but like someone said before me, that doesn't help much. I hate water bugs because they CAN fly. Right now we have an infestation of ants. I'm guessing because of the drought.

Love your protective gear!! I also think it's hilarious that you chose to document this encounter with pictures to blog about. I always think about that AFTER something gross or hilarious happens!

Eww! We've had roaches too in our new house. No one was living in it for several months so we keep spraying and killing. Hoping they go away. I HATE roaches :)

Oh you poor thing! I remember all those horrid roaches when I lived in Florida. I couldn't sleep either when I had seen a bug. Good luck in finding that horrid thing!

Bugs are gross, but as long as they don't hop, I can handle it.

I actually just had this happen with a GIGANTIC spider. Like a baby tarantula. I've spent the last week on guard. I hope you find it soon!
