Zebra Canvas Tutorial

I have been busy busy busy trying to get Reese’s room completed.   The goal was to keep her room mainly pink with accents of Zebra to add a lil’ sass!  I kept going to Hobby Lobby and waiting for the sales on the selection they had for Zebra accent pieces but each time, I would walk by and think, “eh, not today”… until I thought of an idea and put it into motion!!

I GOT CRAFTY!! Prepare to be inspired!! hah..
Supplies 1.  I bought 12x12 canvas’ from Michaels, the letters at Hobby Lobby and spray paint in hot pink.  I also got the handkerchiefs' at hobby lobby for $.99!
2.  I enlisted the help of the hubs AGAIN to cut me 8x8 squares
3.  I got these silver clips at Wal-mart in the office supply section
4.  I got the lil’ rhinestones at hobby lobby as well with the sticky backs.
5.  Already had a staple gun and you’ll also need a glue gun.

STEPS 1-4
1.  Lay your canvas face down on the material
2  Pull one end over and staple it to the board, when you go to grab the opposite end, just pull it pretty tight so that its smooth finish.
3.  I folded the edges and stapled it all down as I went to each corner.
4.  This should be your final product, i cut the excess material off on the inside so I could see to hang them.
Steps 5-7 5.  Spray paint the wooden squares… this was probably my biggest downfall with the whole project because I am not an expert spray painter and ended up with a few bubbles but home-made= more love, right?
6 & 7.  Spray paint your letters and both sides of your clips

Steps 8-10
8.  Once everything is dry, use the hot glue gun to put a generous amount of glue on the backside of your painted square and place it in the center of your canvas.
9.  Add your letter or letters (I was using RMJ because those are Reese’s initials—one letter for each canvas) Also put some glue on the back of your clip in the spot you want to hang from.
10.  Add some rhinestones where you see fit… I put some on the clip and on the letters and later added some to the corners of the wood and on the very bottom.
<Extra step—find a cute picture for your display and add it, I went with black and white so that my color scheme would remain constant>
VOILA!!!
finale
Hang your canvas’ with pride.. I ended up printing out all horizontal pictures but since I did 8x8 squares, I can hang vertical pictures and still have enough room around the picture to capture the same look (5x7’s)!
I am so darn proud of myself!
What do you think!??!?!

You are so creative!

After your tease in yesterday's post I couldn't wait to see today's!

BTW, I love the picture you put for your second pic on the boards... ;)

How is Reese handling the big girl bed? Is she sleeping in it at night yet? Is she getting out of it on her own? I'm so curious because I'd love to switch Jaina to her toddler bed to give her some more independence, but I'm not sure how she'd handle it yet.

Um I love it! No wait I ADORE IT!! Hot pink and zebra are my FAVORITE right now and I want to do Amelia's room in it!! But alas, I am tied to the monkeys I have going now. Just know that if I had a bare room to start with I would SO BE DOING EXACTLY THIS!!! You rock and I love it!!!

Ok, so I read this on my phone earlier today and I'm pretty sure I need to find the email where you told me you were NOT crafty... cause then I can rightfully call you a liar!!! I LOVE this!!! I might now have to still this and do something in Aubrey's room because his walls are bare and I loves hanging stuff on the fridge : )
